Your browser

Lots, probably most, people never change the web browser they were given when they first signed up for broadband. This means that most people use Internet Explorer (IE). Worse, even though IE have vastly improved their browser with their latest version (IE8) most people using the Kent League Website are using older versions.

Changing the browser you use couldn't be easier. You simply download the one of your choice then run it and, hey presto, you can view any page you want straight away. Not only that but browsers like Firefox, Safari, Opera and Google Chrome all let you import your bookmarks/favoutites from your old browser.

Microsoft tried to tie up the internet by making their IE browser view pages differently from the way other browsers view them. They were hoping that websites would be designed only for IE and that pages wouldn't look right in their competitors browsers. But they didn't bargain with the rebellious nature of the website designers who refused to be forced in any particular direction by Microsoft Corporation.

There is an international standard for website coding. It's called the Worldwideweb Consortium standard (W3C) and IE didn't bother with this. In their later versions they have finally got the message that conforming to W3C standards is absolutely vital for the continued development of the internet for everyones benefit. IE8 is the closest they have got to complying with W3C standards. There are always alternatives so here are a few links you may want to try. (Remember, even if you download alternative browsers they will just sit there not doing anything until you open them on your screen so you lose nothing by getting a range of browsers).

I have all of the following on my computers and use them to test how my websites look in each.

IE8  Firefox   Safari
Internet Explorer 8               Firefox 3.6         Apple Safari (for windows)

Google Chrome   Opers
      Google Chrome                  Opera

Make sure YOU choose which browser you use and not your Internet Service Provider.
