Previously, the old 'town' had become affiliated to The Kent FA in 1887. Records also show the club had played in the London league from 1923 to 1933 and 1951 to 1961, The Aetolian League from 1961 to 1964, and the Greater London League from 1964 to 1969. At one stage the Rt. Hon Harold Macmillan M.P. was president.
Honours include the London League Championship in 1927-28 and runners-up in 1930-31. During the 1950's the club was a 'feeder club' to Crystal Palace. In 1969 the old club folded,
Beckenham Town Football Club began life in 1971, metamorphosing out of the chrysalis that had been Stanhope Rovers, a local junior club operating most successfully in South East London Amateur league. and the modern Beckenham Town became the town's only senior club. Joining the London Spartan League in 1975, the club then began to enjoy some success. Runners-up to Fisher Athletic in the Senior Division in 1977-78, Town also reached two league cup finals, getting beat on both occasions, by Welling United and Farnham Town.
In July 1980 Beckenham moved to their present ground in Eden Park Avenue. By 1982-83 Beckenham had joined The Kent League.
Beckenham's' best home crowd is 692, when Berkhampstead visited in 1988.
